Bryan Poynton Woodworker, Sculptor, Instrument Maker: A Retrospective of Selected Works (Softcover version)

$54.99

Bryan Poynton was one of Australia's most skilled wood craftsmen, appreciated by other woodworkers, sculptors, and artists as well as those who admire the collaboration of beauty, form and function.

He trained as a patternmaker in the late 1950's in Australia, where he birthed his skills of precision construction. At the age of 15, he was already carving beautiful objects with much skill, and dedicated his life to his craft and communing with timber to accentuate its beauty.

His creations span furniture, musical instruments, vessels, boxes and free form sculptures. His sculptures include tribal motif, whimsical fancy, philosophical statements, and exquisite letter carving of some of his Haiku poems. A truly gifted artist, he left a large legacy behind him.

Museums Victoria has procured Bryan's original Patternmaker's tool box as well as his cleverly engineered woodworking bench, and a 4 hour interview with Bryan by Jesse Adams Stein in 2018 can be accessed through the National Library of Australia. via https://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-617774615/listen
