The hologram of aging

So lets talk about our preoccupation with age and where this has come from.

There are different types of age: there is mental age – eg the ‘age’ you act – which is based on stereotypes and the age of the attitude you project, there is chronological age – the age you have been in in this body and there is biological age- the age of your organs and systems which could be 10yrs younger than your chronological age if you have looked after yourself well and have good genetics or could be much older if you have had addictions and unhelpful patterns of eating.

Then there is the age of our soul – timeless.

So why are we so focussed on age? Can we really tell how old someone is by looking at them? Why do we ask people how old they are? Of what relevance is this 90% of the time? Do we use it to judge them? Eg wow they look ‘young for their age’ of ‘old for their age’. Who decides this? And is it the same for every culture? Have you even thought about this for yourself?

Pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies have a vested interest in making you fear ageing, as without that fear, you will not buy pills, supplements or creams for your body and face. They don’t talk about your mental and psychological attitude. They don’t celebrate joy and the laughter lines that create the crinkles of expression that tell us someone is kind and their heart is open. Instead they would have us look like wax mannequins, devoid of expression plumping our faces with fillers and botox, making us into androids that feel disconnected from our hearts.

Think about some of the oldest races in the world. Do they use fancy named face creams? Botox?

Think about disease (Dis – ease) caused by worry and stress. How would this be affected if we think positive and simplified our lives?

Can we re-think this preoccupation with ageing? What if we step off the fear merry go round and instead embrace life, do things we enjoy and love those around us, eat organic live food and do gentle exercise to move and celebrate our bodies. What if we were the only authority in our own lives, listened to our souls and our intuition and focussed on positive outlooks being in nature and smiling. What if we step off the marketing machine?

How would that be? What if you never worried about the wrinkles that tell the story of your experience and show that you have lived life and embraced its adventures?

Our beauty really does come from within. Think about when you are in love or if you have been pregnant – the glow and radiance people say you have – you shine because you are in love. This is great for your skin and makes you look younger. So the secret to ageing well is to be in love, think positive and do the things that you are passionate about.
